He is willing and able to serve you as a Food Safety Consultant, HACCP Developer, Auditor and Certification Class Instructor. Here’s why:

Alfred J. Scoglio is a cum laude graduate of Salem State College, where in 1974 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Scoglio passed the Food and Drug Inspector Civil Service Exam in 1975, the Registered Sanitarian Exam in 1979, and worked for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Division of Food and Drugs for over 22 years.

During Alfred’s career with the Division of Food and Drugs, he supervised the Massachusetts Dairy Plant Inspection Unit for seven years. There he instituted a program for monitoring antibiotic drug residues in milk for Massachusetts. He also worked to coordinate Massachusetts’ bottled water program in the mid-1980s. In 1983, Scoglio was appointed as his Division’s first Training Coordinator, in which he orchestrated a program to standardize state and local health inspectors in traditional and HACCP inspection approaches. Later during his state tenure, Alfred was the Division’s liaison with FDA Region 1 (New England) for food processor and food warehouse contract inspections.

Among his various accomplishments, Scoglio authored several guidelines and published articles that appeared in The Food and Drug Reporter. He was a voting delegate for Massachusetts at the 1997 Special Conference on Interstate Milk Shippers. He also penned the New Policy on Frozen Desserts for Massachusetts Boards of Health and developed policies and procedures for the vitamin fortification of milk in Massachusetts dairy plants. Alfred developed the 52-item Food Establishment Inspection Form, which was used by Massachusetts local and state inspectors for 2 decades in the conduct of restaurant and retail food inspections.

Prior to his appointment as trainer, writer, and supervisor for the Division of Food and Drugs, Mr. Scoglio began his career as a field inspector of restaurants, retail food establishments, food and beverage manufacturing plants, bakeries, food warehouses, learning the ropes and gleaning insight from the top experts of the day in state and federal regulation. While working his way up to Senior Inspector and finally Unit Supervisor, Alfred expanded his knowledge base and broadened his experience evaluating compliance in food & beverage facilities, dairy plants, and seafood operations, and in the investigation of food-borne illnesses, product complaints and suspected food and drug tampering cases.

Scoglio has received numerous training certificates from FDA in all arenas of food establishment inspection, and extensive training in FDA’s Seafood HACCP program, including the NOAA’s Seafood HACCP Course. In 2017, Alfred became PCQI Certified in the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) course. As such, he is qualified to develop, revise, and verify Food Safety Plans, as required by FDA for Food Processors and Food Warehouses.

Scoglio began his consulting career in 1999, working ten years for Massachusetts’ largest food safety consulting firm. As Vice President of Regulatory and Technical affairs, he served as Lead Auditor, HACCP Plan Developer and Regulatory Liaison.

In August of 2002, Alfred began his own food safety consulting business. ALSCO Food Check Group teaches Food Manager Certification & proctors Exams, develops HACCP & Food Safety Plans, conducts Third-Party Audits, and performs Contract Food Establishment Inspections for various South Shore towns.
